Esplora and Zibel invite you to join two Island Guardians clean-ups in July!

Plastic does not belong in the sea!

Several studies have demonstrated that organised community clean-ups are vital for protecting wildlife and raising public awareness about the need to deal with our waste mindfully.

Beyond the obvious benefit of people being able to enjoy pristine beaches, clean-ups are important for a multitude of reasons:

– Clean-ups improve the health not only of our ecosystems but also of us humans. Large amounts of trash and garbage can create unsanitary conditions that encourage the development of health problems and diseases.

– Removal of large items of plastic from the sea reduces chances of its breaking up into micro- and nano-plastics that are more difficult to capture. These have been found to be a threat to both wildlife and human health.

– A community clean-up instills empowers its participants and fills them with pride and a sense of achievement.

– Environmental problems can be pretty grim. Studies show that this can lead to denial, apathy or despair. Clean-ups can break the cycle of hopelessness and helplessness when it comes to living more sustainably.

– Clean-ups are an accessible activity in which everyone gets a chance to participate.

– Clean-ups help improve the self-image of participants and community members as a whole.

– Clean-ups can serve as a springboard for other community actions or activities.

Zibel

The NGO was founded in 2017 and since then has grown and grown with the helpful hands of its team members and volunteers.
